Morely Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey NCA
Stop 5 - Northern boundary of the NCA
Established by Congress in 1993, the NCA is home to the largest concentration of nesting birds of prey in North America. The conservation area is used by 24 species of birds of prey including hawks, eagles, falcons, harriers, osprey, and owls.
The northwest boundary of the NCA lies just three miles south of Kuna near Kuna Butte. Though the NCA covers nearly a half million acres, most visitors experience the NCA along the Byway. A small pull-out along Swan Falls Road, just south of the boundary, provides the traveler with recreation information. From this point visitors should start looking for raptors flying across the desert or perched on power poles as they hunt for Paiute ground squirrels and black-tailed jackrabbits.
